Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Orlando: What you Need to Know: Part 1

Calling all resistance fighters who remain in the galaxy

The time has come for the long awaited Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to open at Walt Disney World in Orlando. This message has been prepared especially for you to help you prepare for your journey to this new and foreign region.

Welcome to the blog everyone and thank you for joining! We are so excited that in three short days, Star Wars: Galaxy’s edge in Disney World will have its Grand Opening. To prepare for the adventure ahead, we’ve put together this blog post to tell you everything you need to know before your much anticipated trip. We will cover everything from what it looks like to what food you should brave the lines for. Let’s get started!

What it Looks Like

To some surprise, Galaxy’s Edge in Orlando will nearly be identical to Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland. So if you were debating whether or not to make the trek to Anaheim to experience it there as well, we think it’s safe to say that Orlando will do the trick. Though generally everything is the same, the entrances to the parks do have their own unique arrangement.

Knowing that both the layouts are generally identical, we can say with certainty that when entering the park for the first time, seeing the Millennium Falcon will send chills down your spine and to the true fan, may even bring a tear to the eye. The park is themed to portray the planet of Batuu which is an outpost planet on the outer rim of the galaxy perfect for anyone trying to avoid too much attention, hence why the Millennium Falcon is there.

While strolling around, you’ll notice that there are very few signs but if there are any, they sure won’t be in English… that's because everything is written in Aurebesh which is the spoken galactic language in the Star Wars franchise. Thankfully, the Disney World app has a translation system that can help you read these signs and find your way around. Be sure to download the app before to help make it a smooth journey!

Do I Need a Reservation?

The simple answer to this question is no, you do not need a reservation. When Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge opened, reservations were required but this is not the case for Disney World. The park opens August 29th to everyone, period. To much surprise, Disneyland did not experience the large amount of traffic anticipated for the opening of Galaxy’s Edge. This is probably due to the idea that Disneyland is centered around locals that are flexible in their timeline and don’t mind waiting a few weeks to avoid the crowds. Disney World is a different story though, drawing in the masses from all around the world who may have planned this once in a lifetime trip years in advance so expect the crowds.
Along with not needing a reservation, it is important to know that from opening day (August 29th) through August 31st, Galaxy’s Edge will open at 6:00am to all guests. If it were me, I would check it out early on the second or third day.

The Attractions

For sake of space, we want to share with you the top three attractions that are a must. These three attractions include the Millennium Falcon ride Smuggler’s Run, Savi’s Lightsaber Workshop, and the Cantina.
Let’s start with Smuggler’s Run. The ride is designed to be as if you are part of the crew that is manning the Millennium Falcon. Each cockpit holds six people and an assignment is given to each person, whether it’s the pilot or a gunner. The cast members hand out six cards to your crew which decides what position you hold. Being the pilot is a must because nothing can beat controlling the ship and flying it around. We tend to notice that the two pilot cards are usually given to the first two people in the group so aim for that!

Next, make your way over to Savi’s Lightsaber Workshop where you can create the lightsaber you’ve dreamt of since you were as small as Yoda. Keep in mind that there are limited spots for the workshop. In Disneyland, reservations for the workshop open at 7:00am the day of so be ready to hop on that early!

Lastly, the Cantina is one of the most popular areas of Galaxy’s Edge because of the unique concoctions you can try! There are drinks for both young and old so bring everyone and refuel.
If all of this gets you excited, just wait! We will have more to come in Part 2 tomorrow! Stay tuned, and pack your bags for our adventure to a world far, far away!
